A New Club Individual Knockout Competition for 2025
Grand Union Canal - Pick and Choose

The Club used to run a Canal Pick and choose Head-to-Head knockout competition every year and we are looking to revive this event for 2025. There is a small entry fee of £5.00 to cover the cost of the trophy and the rest of the funds will be donated to a chosen charity (Prostate Cancer Research).

The competition will start in June 2025 and all entries must be received by Friday 6th June, and the closing deadline dates for each round are as follows (note: These are the dates you must complete the round by, and you must submit your match results by these dates, there are no set dates for the matches as these are to be mutually agreed by the chosen pairs)

  • Round 1 - Deadline Sunday 29th June 2025

  • Round 2 - Deadline Sunday 20th July 2025

  • Round 3 - Deadline Sunday  17th August 2025

  • Round 4 - Deadline Sunday 14th September 2025

  • Round 5 - Deadline Sunday 5th October 2025

Your match results should submitted by the relevant deadline dates above using the online result form (available at the bottom of this page). All of the results will be posted in the relevant section of this web page.

  • Any Club member (including eligible Juniors over age 13)  can enter the competition at a cost of £5.00 entries must be received by the deadline date of Friday 6th June 2025 - Payment is via credit or debit card through our secure online payment system.

  • The draw for round 1 will take place on Saturday the 7th of June 2025.

  • There will be a maximum of 32 places. When all entries are in, a draw for the pairs to fish against each other will take place (the organiser will do this). In the event of an odd number in any round the last angler from the draw will be awarded a bye into the next round.

  • Those drawn against each other may fish at any location on the Club's Grand Union Canal sections. The drawn pairs will decide a mutually agreeable date and time and the location will be chosen by the angler in the pair drawn first (A). The second angler drawn (B) will choose the two swims to fish which should not be more than 30 Metres apart. The anglers will decide which swim, of the two selected, they fish via a coin toss or other suitable method. If the drawn pair of anglers decide to complete the fixture while fishing an organised match, pegs will be determined at the draw for the match itself, and the thirty metre rule will not apply.

  • Matches will be between 3 to 5 Hours duration as mutually agreed by the competitors.

  • Competitors should ensure suitable weighing equipment is available before commencing to fish (it may be possible to arrange for loan scales / weigh nets if suitable equipment is not available).

  • The match must be fished and the result notified by the deadline date for the round. Results shall be notified to the organisers via the Results form at the bottom of this page, these results will be placed on this page.

  • In the event of an angler not being able to fish by the closing date for the round a bye will be awarded to the angler who was available.

  • After the match is fished the organiser must be informed and the winners will go forward into the next pair draw for the second round, and again fish by a set date. Results of the draw will be posted on this page.

  • The winners of round 2 will then be entered another draw for round 3 with those anglers going forward to decide date and venue, in accordance with rules (3), (4) & (5). If an odd number a bye will be awarded. Anglers must again fish against each other by the set date.

  • This process will continue until only two anglers remain and the final will take place to decide the winner , which will be when trophies are decided. A match for third place will also take place between the losers of the penultimate round

  • Trophies will be presented at the Club AGM in March 2026.

  • In case of any dispute the organisers decision will be final.
